Mt of Olives!

Written by gregdenham on December 3rd, 2011

Today we began by making our way to the Mt. of Olives that overlooks Jerusalem from the East. It is a view that is both surreal and breathtaking. To be atop the Mt and muse on the fact that Jesus descended the Mt of Olives riding a Donkey entering the City the very week He was crucified is beyond words. Years prior King David ascended the Mt of Olives fleeing his son Absalom in betrayal. Jesus on the other hand descended the Mt of Olives entering the City to face betrayal by Judas and to bear the reproach and sin of the world. Â
Â
Below are some of the Scriptures that we read while overlooking the City. They provide great perspective on how everything is moving toward the Coming King. Some of the descriptions are graphic, describing how Jesus will bring justice to earth. But the reality is there is not a greater friend of Israel, the Jew, the sinner — the world, then the Lord Jesus Christ. He will return at the darkest hour in Israel’s history. He will return at the darkest hour in world history. He is the Savior and He is the Lord! I hope everyone reading this blog is ready for Jesus return!!

    Thank you so much Pastor:
Here are some “more” verses to motivate us as we remember “God” is with us this season.

As sure as the promise of His first coming was true, the Promise of His Second Coming Should Motivate Us To:

    Matthew 16:24-27
    • Deny Ourselves
    • Take up Our Cross Daily
    • Follow Our Lord
    • Lose Our Lives to be Lived for Him

    Matthew 24:42-46
    • Watch and be Ready for His Return
    • Be Faithfully Doing His Service

    Mark 8:34-38
    • Lose Our Lives to be Lived for Him
    • Lose Our Lives for the Gospel’s Sake
    • Not be Ashamed of Him or of His Word

    Mark 13:32-37
    • Remain Faithful in Fervent Prayer
    • Take Heed to Our Daily Walk
    • Not Become Neglectful, Weary, or Faint in His Service

    Luke 12:31-40
    • Seek First the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness
    • Not Fear or Worry Over this Life’s Cares
    • Lay Up Treasure in Heaven, not Treasure on Earth

    Luke 21:34-36
    • Take Heed Against Worldliness

    John 14:1-3
    • Not be Troubled at Trials and Tribulations
    • Center our Faith upon God our Father and Jesus Christ our Lord

John 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and [then] cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

Whether you are in Jerusalem, or Auburn, or the “utter most” parts of the world- Jesus is coming back; “press on and look up!”

    Amazing, praying for you all.

It gives me chills to even try and comprehend actually standing where Jesus’ decent to be crucified took place. I have never been there and can’t imagine the emotion that must overcome the senses while visually taking in the environment and recalling the events that unfolded standing on that sacred ground. Amazing…..
