Arriving home from church today our daughter Sarah told Stephanie and I that Pastor Chuck has been diagnosed with lung cancer. It was like time stood still for me. It wasn’t long before I heard Stephanie weeping. I picked up my phone and noticed that Dennis Agajanian and Don Stewart confirmed the news via text. We don’t have many details. The Dr’s are still evaluating his condition. We do know surgery is scheduled for next week. Please join us in praying for this godly and precious man. The Lord is in the miracle business!! p.s. for those who may not know of Pastor Chuck, I write about what what he has meant to me and millions of others. You can learn more about him by clicking the “Influences” and “My Story” options at the top tool bar of this web site.
My heart fell when my daughter notices a post on face book- but I know where he is going! And unless the Lord tarries, we many of us will soon follow! Only one thing we can guarantee- that is where we chose to spend eternity. It is a choice! If you have not made that choice- DO IT NOW. Life is but a vapor! Jesus said; “If you believe not that I am He you will die in your sins.” If you don’t know what that means call A Calvary Chapel! If you do know; and have drifted away from Jesus – turn and repent now! Life is too short to waist any more time.
I found this somewhere; it didn’t take away my grief- but it realigned my perspective.
“He Maketh No Mistake.”
A. M. Overton wrote the poem when his wife died.
“He Maketh No Mistake” has become very popular and has spread around the world.
My Father’s way may twist and turn,
My heart may throb and ache
But in my soul I’m glad I know,
He maketh no mistake.
My cherished plans may go astray,
My hopes may fade away,
But still I’ll trust my Lord to lead
For He doth know the way.
Tho’ night be dark and it may seem
That day will never break,
I’ll pin my faith, my all in Him,
He maketh no mistake.
There’s so much now I cannot see,
My eyesight’s far too dim;
But come what may, I’ll simply trust
And leave it all to Him.
For by and by the mist will lift
And plain it all He’ll make,
Through all the way, tho’ dark to me,He made not one mistake.
1 Kings 8:56 Blessed [be] the LORD, that hath given rest unto His people Israel, according to all that He promised: there hath not failed one word of all His good promise, which He promised by the hand of Moses His servant.
Chuck Smith will finish the course Jesus laid out for him; that’s for certain!

What shocking and sad news. I’m so sorry. The Avila’s are praying for Chuck’s health and for comfort for the Denham’s and all who are close to Pastor Chuck.
How my heart aches for my dear friend Pastor Chuck. He had a profound influence on my life when I was a young believer, who rededicated my life to the Lord at the Twin Peaks family camp in 1978. Pastor Chuck baptized my nephew and my sister, and was a dear friend to my parents who attended his church in Costa Mesa. I drove all the way from Malibu to hear him speak on occasion! He offered gentle, godly counsel on a couple of occasions when my faith was tested and shaken. And this big teddy bear was fun! He loved volleyball! Truly, his abundant fruit will remain, and I know the Father is smiling with pleasure and will have great mercy upon His faithful servant and his family and church family. Pastor Chuck will always be in our hearts.
