My Friend Don Daniel

Written by gregdenham on April 29th, 2009

I want to thank ALL of you who have been praying for Don Daniel.

It’s with a heavy heart that I write these words.

Don went to heaven this morning.

His absence leaves a horrible vacuum.

When I think of Don, our dear friend, I think of a STRONG GODLY MAN! I think of a man who lived 2 Timothy 4:7 which reads, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith!”

Don had been suffering with a sudden illness. I had cried out to our Father to raise Him up! I believed. But, this morning, though our cry was not answered as we had hoped, I DO praise the Lord – because Don has been RAISED UP and lives in the King’s presence!

Don is with the great patriarch’s of the faith. He has seen the face of Jesus! He is in glory. And, the Lord knows how we all terribly miss him. Please keep his beautiful wife Joby, and the entire Daniel family, in your prayers. We will be gathering together on Thursday, May 7th at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Auburn, to give thanks to God for Don Daniel, and to stand with the Daniel family at this time.

“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:37-39

Greg so sorry to hear about the loss of your dear friend and that you along with many in the congregation are suffering his departure from this life. May the Lord bestow upon all His comfort and healing touch to the emptiness you feel within your hearts at this time. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

    To the Daniels family,
i have had the privaledge of being friends with Elena. Through her I have met her beloved grama and grampa. Mr. Daniel was a very sweet, godly man. I am very sad that he has passed away but realize that he is with the Lord Almighty. It comferts me to know that he is in heaven and has met all the disciples and followers of Christ. I hope the Daniels will never forget where he is and who he is with, because he is with the greatest man that has ever walked this earth. JESUS CHRIST!! love, stephanie c.

We first met Don and Jobie when we attended the home Bible Study at their home several years ago. We were new to Calvary Chapel Auburn. Michael Storz was our group leader and Don and Jobie couldn’t have been more warm and welcoming. I remember the first night we were at their house, I brought a bunch of cookies to share…at the end of the evening Don said I couldn’t leave unless I left the rest of the cookies!! We loved going there, we learned a lot, it was fun getting to know all that attended!! Don always had something to share, it was such a blessing. We will miss his smile, his graciouness and his love for the Lord. Our love and prayers are with Jobie and her family.

It’s wonderful to know Don is face to face with Jesus this very moment – what a thought – absent from the body and present with the Lord! I hope he’s playing his guitar.

He certainly leaves some big boots and sad hearts to fill. Let’s be sure to reach out to his beautiful Jobie with our prayers and encouragement; she’s been so faithful to do the same for us.

Unfortunately I did not know Don Daniel. Yet I was blessed to know a couple of his grandchildren because of friendships my children shared with them. There is no doubt in my mind he played a strong role in the godly influence of his family. I thank God for men like Don Daniel. His legacy will go on through his family and the beautiful memories of his life lived for Christ.

God bless you and comfort you with His peace and love Daniel family. You are in our prayers.

    SIncerely,
    The Cunningham family

  6. Joby Daniel says:

I would not even begin to know how to thank you, Pastor Greg and Stephanie for the love and support you have given to me and my family as we walked through this valley.
Thank you for letting the Calvary Church family know what a wonderful treasurer Don was. God gave him to me to walk through this life with. A beautiful journey that was to end much too soon. However, how I praise Him for giving us 51 years together to have 3 great kids and 8 grandchildren and one very special great grandson.
Thank you Calvary for praying for Don and for holding all of us up in our time of sorrow. Pastor Greg, God certainly did lift him up. Thank you.

  7. Terri Vickers says:

    Dear Pastor Greg and Stephanie,

I will forever be grateful to the both of you. During the most difficult of my life. Greg, both you and Stephanie showed me and my family such love and compassion.

I loved my Dad with all of my heart. He was my earthly hero. My heart is very heavy these days with sadness. It does however give me peace and comfort knowing that my Dad is in the presence this very moment with our Lord and Savior. I also have peace knowing that some day soon we will be together again.

Greg, the words that you spoke at my Dad’s service, were honoring both to Lord and my dad. In my eyes no one could have done a better job.

It brings me such comfort knowing that you loved my dad. My mom Joby is truly blessed to have such a great pastor and friend to lean on.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart

    Terri Vickers (Don’s daughter)

  8. Joby Daniel says:

    Pastor Greg and Stephanie,

I may not have the previledge of seeing you again before we have to leave for home, so I want to take this time to say a great big thank you for being such a friend to Don and Joby, and such a comfort to all the family during our sad loss. Our loss is His gain.

The service was certainly a celebration of Don’s life and a befitting legacy to him. You did a tremendous job, even while it was evident that you were hurting as badly as the rest of us.

    Your brother in Christ,
    Bill Daniel(Don’s brother)
